The places we come from really do play a part in determining who we become.
For Vinny Michaels, rural upstate New York was not only a place to call home, it was a place where inspiration was everywhere.
Broadalbin New York, located a few hours from the bustle and noteworthy pizza of Manhattan, borders the southern shore of The Great Sacandaga Lake. It was there that Vinny, now 22, grew up.
Despite cold winters and a struggling economy, Vinny was always inspired by his community filled with people who worked hard for anything that they had. There was a simple mindset in upstate New York. If you or your family needed something, a little hard work would make it happen. This is perspective Vinny brought into his adult life and eventually into his music.
By age 10, instead of hanging out with friends, Vinny often opted to sit alone and play his guitar. This wasn’t the most popular choice with some of his family, but Vinny knew he’d found something he enjoyed. He was also beginning to contemplate a crazy idea.
What would happen if he followed in the footsteps of those who’d inspired him? What would happen if he applied a work-hard mindset to the music he loved so much. Could he too reach a goal?
Though this story is very much still unfolding, today Vinny Michaels is on a path to bring his music to anyone who will listen… and people are really going to listen.
After auditioning for American Idol in at age 16, Vinny built his own band and began playing the regional circuit professionally. He was quickly picked up by local country fav’s Skeeter Creek who made him their exclusive opener for more than 40 performances.
In February 2018 someone else was also listening. David and Anna Bourgeois of Bridge Road Entertainment signed Michaels into a recording and development contract. Vinny joins sibling blues rock artists Jocelyn & Chris Arndt on the Bridge Road label. The Arndt’s, under Bourgeois’ production, debuted on The Billboard AAA Top 40 this past December.
Bourgeois Commented “One of the best things about Vinny beyond the music is that he’s just a real and genuine person. He epitomizes the have a good time and be a good person mindset that you hear in his music because that’s who he really is. That makes creating a great record a lot easier.”
Look for Vinny’s first full-length debut late this spring featuring a variety of top players from New York and Nashville and look for Vinny on the road supporting the record this summer!
Sometimes hard work really does pay off…
